As a response to the increase in acts of violence in Schools and our Communities, ALIVEntertainment Foundation Inc., developed a preventive Campaign called, "Non-Violence Starts with Me". In this violence intervention program is a creative writing segment which teaches students how to improve writing skills. Topics discussed in the Bullying Intervention Course are brought to life as student develop their own stories of teen issues and how to deal with bullies.
We work closely with students, exposing them to the art of theatrics and creative writing by inspiring them to express their thoughts and feelings on paper. We focus on teaching them the art of acting as they develop story lines and plots while working closely with classmates to bring their characters to life. We partner with Schools and their communities to present these life changing performances of real teen issues at our Rally Event which is presented after completion of the creating writing and performance arts class.
The Non-Violence Starts With Me Rally consist of Stage Skits addressing Real Teen Issues, Live Performances presented by the youth (Drill/Stump teams, Dance Groups, Miming Artist, Poets, etc.) Remarks by Leading Officials and Testimonials by Victims themselves. This preventive measures addresses not only offenses, but Violence Acts against oneself. Our goal is to address these hurting issues before lives are either destroyed or lost.
Create an awareness of the problems addressed and allow those troubled students to identify with the characters presented
Allow students to discover if they have a problem
Evaluate the outcomes of the problems that are demonstrated
Analyze the solutions that are illustrated
Confide in a trusted adult and seek appropriate help
The combination of the Bully Intervention Course and Creative Writing & Performance Arts Class, equips students with the ability to become positive and productive citizens. Once students complete both programs they are given an opportunity to express their creativity at the Rally. The Rally helps to show cast what the students learned in both classes, while encouraging unity and community!
FACTS ABOUT TOPICS ADDRESSED
Bulling: Over 3.2 million students are victims of bullying each year. We will create a performance to educate students of the harmful effects of bulling and empower the victims with a voice.
Drugs: The United States represents 5 percent of the world's population and 75 percent of prescription drugs taken. 60 percent of teens who abuse prescription drugs get them free from friends and relatives. In our demonstrations we address
the life threatening effects of drugs as well as the turmoil and pain that the family suffers when a child is addicted to drugs.
Teen pregnancy: Parenthood is the leading reason that teen girls drop out of school. More than half of teen mothers never graduate from high school. We will express the importance of abstinence and protected ones self against diseases and the economic hardship that comes with not having an education.
Abuse: Recognizing abuse may be especially difficult for someone who has lived with it for many years. Many people who
are abused mistakenly think that it's their fault. Our plays help victims identify with the problem at hand, allow them to get
the proper care.
Depression: Teens are known for being a moody, rebellious, egocentric and emotional bunch. But while this is normal adolescent behavior, depression is a real disorder that effects 1 in 20 teens. We address these abnormalities in behavior and create an awareness for the students, directing them to seek proper guidance.
Rage: According to a new study out of Harvard, about two thirds of American teens had a history of anger attacks involving real or threatened violence. The volume of violent acts in schools are increasing every year. Our program helps address these issues and attempts to reduce these numbers, creating a more peaceful environment in our Schools and Community.
